✨ Yesterday, NBC went out with Aurora College students Christina and Galle to install our very first Menstrual Nooks in N’dilo & Dettah! 🏠��🌸

These nooks wouldn’t have been possible without the amazing support from Indigenous Service Canada (ISC) and the hard work of builder Maxie. Huge love to the students for making this happen.💕

✨ Celebrating Lesley Paulette! One of our beloved Knowledge Keepers at NBC ✨

We are beyond proud to share that Lesley Paulette has been appointed to the Order of Canada! 🎉

Lesley has been a trailblazer for midwifery in the NWT, paving the way for countless families and empowering birthing people across the North. Although she may no longer be practicing as a midwife, her impact continues to shine brightly in her work with programs dedicated to Reproductive Justice.

As a knowledge keeper, mentor, and active advocate, Lesley’s commitment to creating a safer, more inclusive birthing environment for all remains unwavering. We're honoured to work alongside her at the Northern Birthwork Collective and to learn from her wisdom, kindness, and leadership. 🌱💫

NBC’s Prenatal to Postpartum classes in Yellowknife are designed to fit into your busy schedule and help you feel prepared every step of the way! 🌟 You can choose to attend one, two, or all four of the classes we offer:

Prenatal
Labour and Birth
Postpartum
The changing feature class (infant feeding, pelvic floor, baby wearing, partner support, etc.)

While you can pick just the ones that are most relevant to you, we highly encourage attending all of them to get the full spectrum of knowledge and support, from pregnancy through those crucial first months of parenthood.

Our classes are currently held every 4 months on Saturdays for just a couple of hours each session. This is designed to fit into your schedule without overwhelming you. And because we always want to improve, the class duration and times may change based on feedback and reviews. Your comfort and convenience matter to us! 😊

Today we want to share about sterile water injections!

From Sabrina, our Project Director:

"Sterile water injections were a game changer for my labour! I was having really bad, seemingly never-ending back labour but was also really struggling with touch and physical comfort measures in that area. Once I received the injections, my back pain disappeared within seconds and I could finally feel where baby was in my pelvis and could move intuitively to help him descend. The injections do hurt, but they were so worth it for the relief I experienced with the rest of my labour! I wish they were offered more as an option - so I decided it would be a good use of our Fact Friday!"
