Support for Northerners receiving care in Edmonton
Coming from Mi’kma’ki Territory (Nova Scotia/New Brunswick), I have been honored to reside in Treaty 6 Territory for over ten years. The prairies have offered me kindness, healing, knowledge, and community. After spending time in the academic world, I knew I needed to do something that supported the healing of women, particularly Indigenous women.
My birth work journey started 2 years ago in Amiskwacîwâskahikan (Edmonton,) and it’s still where I offer support today! Since my training with DONA Intl. I have been able to attend and support many different birthing experiences. I love being able to incorporate traditional medicine into the birthing space and support Indigenous perspectives on birthing.
I have also been certified as an End-of-Life Doula through Elder Diane Boots Lifting Their Minds Indigenous End-of-Life training as of 2024. Having personal experience with loss, I believe having a balanced understanding of the spirit world is integral to providing full-circle care.
I became connected to The Northern Birthwork Collective (NBC) in the Summer of 2023 when birthing parents were forced to evacuate to Edmonton, Alberta to have their babies. Since then, my heart has been connected to the North, the NBC, and the many parents/individuals still being evacuated today for their medical needs. Working with the NBC, whether it be birth or end-of-life, my values are autonomy, communication, and advocacy.
